This is a male and female pair of Red Crossbills captured by my bird buddy feeder in South Anchorage on 6/13/2024. Anchorage is on the edge, or perhaps a few miles outside, of this bird’s normal range. Crossbills eat the seeds inside cones, the Alaskan ones are associated with Sitka Spruce. I have no Sitka Spruce in my yard, but many black spruce, and white spruce, if there is such a thing.
